My Response To Your Questions About Facebook

Ruth asks…

How Has Facebook Become So Addicting That There Is Now Support Groups To Help With It?

I was reading in the news today that Facebook has become literally addicting for many people, young and old, that it’s starting to interfere with daily functioning.

There is now counseling and support groups to help those with specific addictions to Facebook.

How have we gotten to this point?

Riverpalm answers:

It became very addicting for me. I banned myself from it yesterday (not deleted my account – just made it so my computer won’t load the pages).

Productivity is now doubled!

Jenny asks…

How does Facebook choose who shows up on your friends online?

Some people who I’ve never interacted with via Facebook show up on the friends online display on chat, while people who have written on my wall don’t always show up there. How does Facebook decide?

Riverpalm answers:

It is not f’book that decides its just, hows everyone who is online, even if you have never talked to them on chat before, as long as you have them added as a friend then it will show u when they are online

Hope that helped (:

Richard asks…

How do I put a small facebook icon on my company web site to bring people to my facebook business page?

I recently created a facebook business page for my company, and I can not figure out how to put a facebook logo on my company web page for people to click on and it take them directly to the facebook page. I don’t want the “like” box, I want the icon with the blue F. I cant seem to figure out how to do this.

Riverpalm answers:

Http://www.facebook.com /badges/page.php no space. After the com

Mandy asks…

How do you make facebook emails go into one folder?

My inbox has 4000+ emails from facebook. Its killing my inbox. I want to know if there is a way that i can make a folder called facebook and all the emails from facebook would automatically be there. BTW i am using windows live hotmail so yeah.

Riverpalm answers:

Check one of the Facebook emails and look for a menu or something like that that gives you options for what you can do to that email. Look for something like “filter” or “label” and you should be find an option to filter messages like this. Make sure you apply it to all mesages

if not, if you’re like me, you can create a whole new email devoted to facebook. Just create a whole new email and in your facebook account, you can edit your settings so that that is your new email for facebook. You can still log in with your original email address and pw, but just have your notifs and emails sent to this new email.

Nancy asks…

How do Facebook ads work and should i set one up for my schools yearbook?

I’m in my schools yearbook class and i came up with the idea of making a Facebook ad for us. how do Facebook ads work and how much money does it cost? I figured if we each chip in some cash and target the ad for people in our town we could get people pumped for this years book! Comments or other advertising ideas are much appreciated, thanks guys!

Riverpalm answers:

You can set up ads that link people to the Facebook page, or another page about your yearbook. The amount it costs depends on the cost per click that you set when you set up the ads.
Here’s where you set up the ad – http://www.facebook.com/ads/create/
And here’s some information on how to do it – http://www.facebook.com/business/ads/

My Response To Your Questions About 100.5

January 29th, 2012

Nancy asks…

What do I need to get on this exam to obtain an A in the class?

This class is based on 5 exams, each is worth 20%.

1st exam- 94%
2nd exam – 98%
3rd exam – 88%
4th exam – 100%
5th exam – ???

An A is anything from a 90-100% in this class. Essentially, What do I need on the 5th exam to obtain at least a 90% overall in the class?

I ALWAYS PICK A BEST ANSWER.

Riverpalm answers:

The equation for solving this is rather easy see:

(94+98+88+100+ x)/5 = 90

We need only to solve for x

x= 5(90) – (94+98+88+100)

x= 70.

So a 70 secures the 90% grade ANSWER

William asks…

Why are certain FM radio stations not coming in on my sony stereo?

I have a problem with my sony mhc-gx250 stereo where for some reason stations 99.5 thru 100.5 will not work. They are not staticky, but rather completely silenced. It is not a problem with the positioning of the antenna or distance from the radio station. Has anyone heard of this problem, and Does anyone know what would fix this?

Riverpalm answers:

If everything else works, as it apparently does, it just means you are not able to pick up a signal for a station within those frequency parameters, or no one in you area is even broadcasting between 99.5 and 100.5.

Richard asks…

Is it bad to have a fever when pregnant?

I got really sick somehow and now I am worried because I have a fever and am really sick and I can’t take anything for it. My fever is 38.1 C. I think that’s about 100.5 F. Is it bad to get a fever?

Riverpalm answers:

A high fever is bad. Your temp rises when your preggers. But if its at 100.5 I would contact your doctor and see what he think you should do.

Steven asks…

At what tempature should i bring my 4yr old daughter to the doctors?

Her temp was 99.6 last night. I gave her some cough medicine bc she’s coughing, stuffy nose etc. I took her temp this am when she got up and its now at 100.5.

Riverpalm answers:

At four, a trip to the doctors/ER is required only if she has a fever that lasts a few days or her behavior is markedly off, lethargic, if motrin/tylenol and home remedies don’t bring it down etc. My kids run fevers in the 104s and 105s and, most of the time, they don’t require a trip to the ER. Sometimes, they don’t even need to go to the doctors. It’s only if the fever lasts or continues getting worse or their behavior changes. For example, they come down with a cold that seems to be going away then all of a sudden the fever spikes — this is a sign that they’ve developed a secondary bacterial infection that will need antibiotics. Or, they are vomiting with a high fever and become lethargic, which could mean that they are dehydrated and need fluids.

I know fevers can be scary and it’s awful when your child is sick but try to think of a fever as a good thing — it’s the body’s way of fighting off infection and killing the germs so your child can get better. Most fevers are caused by viruses and there is nothing a doctor can do about those except to treat the symptoms and let it run its course. If my child was ill with a fever in the low 100s but still acting normally, I probably wouldn’t even give motrin. If, however, he/she has a fever in the 99s but is acting ill and complaining of things, then I would treat the fever.

I attached a link will all sorts of info. On fevers if you want to read it. It states that a call to the doctor isn’t necessary for an older child until it hits 102.2 or…

* refuses fluids or seems too ill to drink adequately
* has persistent diarrhea or repeated vomiting
* has any signs of dehydration (urinating less than usual, not having tears when crying, less alert and less active than usual)
* has a specific complaint (e.g., sore throat or earache)
* still has a fever after 24 hours (in kids younger than 2 years) or 72 hours (in kids 2 years or older)
* has recurrent fevers, even if they only last a few hours each night
* has a chronic medical problem such as heart disease, cancer, lupus, or sickle cell anemia
* has a rash
* has pain with urination

And to head to the ER if…
* inconsolable crying
* extreme irritability
* lethargy and difficulty waking
* rash or purple spots that look like bruises on the skin (that were not there before the child got sick)
* blue lips, tongue, or nails
* infant’s soft spot on the head seems to be bulging outward or sunken inwards
* stiff neck
* severe headache
* limpness or refusal to move
* difficulty breathing that doesn’t get better when the nose is cleared
* leaning forward and drooling
* seizure
* abdominal pain

Sandra asks…

How long does it usually take for an infant to develop a reaction or a fever to vaccinations, especially…?

the flu-vaccine? (I’ve already contacted the doctor and am waiting to get a call back) My six month has a cold since Saturday no fever just the sniffles. She had her six month check up yesterday and got all of her shots. This morning she had a fever, about 100.5-101. How long do the fevers usually last for if they are shot related? And wouldn’t she have developed the fever closer to the time when she had the shots (11 am yesterday the fever peaked at 1pm today)
I searched the site about thinktwice and also a shot in the dark…and Ihave to say that I found an even better site by Dr. Greene. I searched side effects DPT and then clicked on Dr. Greene. He puts a good perspective on things..for all you skeptics out there.

Riverpalm answers:

I think the rule is within three days (within 24 hrs the norm), that in mind, some babies can actually stay sick longer as a result of their shot. Your infant just needs some liquid tylenol. Sometimes docs take forever to call back. Stay safe and call a nurse, a 24 hr. Health hotline, or your local hospital(pediatrics),they usually have nurses available that can answer questions.

My Response To Your Questions About Fox News

January 28th, 2012

Mark asks…

Why do people think fox news any more biased than any other news station?

Since all the people who say fox news is propaganda are liberals and people on both sides all have the tendency to downgrade any source that doesn’t already agree with or confirm their preconceived opinions. Liberal news sources are just as guilty of misrepresenting information to further a political agenda, because the goal of the media is just to appeal to an audience and create drama instead of reporting accurate information. For instance, people might say that a certain natural disaster is “caused” by global warming. Not to argue about the existence of global warming, just that it’s often not scientifically accurate to state a causitive relationship between two things since most things in science aren’t that linear or straightforward and there may be other variables.

Riverpalm answers:

At least fox shows all sides, unlike cnn and msnbc who only show the far left side of issues

Lisa asks…

What is it like watching Fox News crush liberal propaganda outlets?

And knowing that more people watch Fox News than any other media outlet?

Does it compel you to hate Americans and tell yourself America is stupid to deal with the facts?
Fox News more than doubled its competitors on cable, CNN and MSNBC

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/category/ratings

Truth hurts, huh?
This does explain much of the left’s seething anger and denial.

Interesting.

Riverpalm answers:

Nielsen September 2010 Nightly News Viewership averages (regardless of Network/Cable viewing – actual viewership audience):

NBC’s “Nightly News” topped the evening newscasts with 7.6 million viewers.
ABC’s “World News” was second with 6.9 million.
“CBS Evening News” had 5.2 million.
Fox News “Special Report” w/ Bret Baier – 2.05 million viewers.
The Fox Report w/ Shep – 1.7 million viewers.

According to a new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll, CNN has edged out Fox News as the nation’s “most trusted” television news channel.

Http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/05/05/poll-cnn-not-fox-news-is-americas-most-trusted-news-source/

Mandy asks…

How is Fox able to have the most Conservative News program, yet also have the Most Liberal Shows?

Fox News and Family Guy are on the same Network. How is this even feasible? Is the same company sending mixed messages here or what!

Not taking any sides, but I’ve always been so curious about this, yet nobody seems to address it. Family guy even mocks fox news repeatedly.

Riverpalm answers:

Fox News and Fox Broadcasting are different networks run by different people. Both are owned by the same company (News Corp.), but they operate completely separately. The people at Fox Broadcasting don’t particularly like the people at Fox News, and vice versa. Rupert Murdoch (the head of News Corp.) doesn’t care about the feud because they are both making money.

William asks…

Why is Fox News sexually objectifying Megyn Kelly by showing us her nipples?

The camera angle on her is at her waistline, therefore allowing us to see her nipples poking through her shirt. Is this appropriate treatment for an extremely intelligent woman with a law degree or is Fox News simply doing this to get ratings?

Riverpalm answers:

Andrew, you need to masturbate, then you will feel better.

Maria asks…

How do you upload a video or picture to fox news?

So for instance you managed to capture some armature footage of an event. How do you go about uploading pictures or videos to fox news?

Riverpalm answers:

I would imagine that their website has a “contact us” link. Send them a note, tell them what you have, and they’ll get back to you if they’re interested. If they are, they’ll let you know where to upload your video.

My Response To Your Questions About 1st Bank

January 27th, 2012

Jenny asks…

The first doctor from the nazi’s in 1940 from the 1st bllod bank?

Okay, my Project is due tomorrow and my stupid mom threw away the thing I need for my project, but I don’t remember the strip of paper that told me what to base it on, but all I remember is that it was something about a nazi doctor who worked in a blood bank who did freaky operations on jews.

Riverpalm answers:

Josef Mengele??

Richard asks…

What if my 1st and 2nd mortgage are owned by the same bank?

My 2nd mortgage is owned by BofA and since BofA bought out country wide my 1st mortgage is now owned by BofA as well. I’m considering walking away since i’m upside down, should i stop paying both mortagages since they are owned by the same bank? and should I also close my savings and checking account at BoA?

Riverpalm answers:

WOW! The best thing to do before taking any action is speak to an attorney. It is not always as easy as “walking away” as the bank could obtain a deficiency judgment against you if they are unable to sell the home for what is owed on the mortgages.

Have you looked into where you would live if you left the home and how that will impact your life? Just because you are “upside down” in the house does not mean that you should not continue to live there as you might end up with less home for the same payment someplace else. And defaulting on the mortgages will damage your credit rating and impact future credit purchases (such as a car) and interest rates for several years.

Housing values will come back, it will just take some time. And if you can afford the payments, staying where you are might be the best choice.

If you cannot afford the payments, there are other options available such as renegotiating the interest rates on your mortgages.

Betty asks…

Are a lot of places (restaurants and sites) closed down on bank holiday 1st Monday in May? Should I avoid it?

We will be traveling for 10 days in Scotland and will most likely be in Edinburgh or near that area on the bank holiday. We will mostly be visiting castles and historical sites. We will also try to visit some pubs and local restaurants on this day. This will be our first time in Scotland, so we don’t know what to expect.

Riverpalm answers:

As sunshine_mel said, for the most part you should be fine.
National chains with English HQ’s don’t tend to take the holiday, but smaller stores may. Public services will be shut, but the tourist style places will be open.
On point to note is that for some archaic reason a lot of restaurants in Eddinburgh close on a Monday anyway so check well in advance if there is a particular place you want to eat.
I’ve lived here for 6 years now and still can’t understand why that happens in this day and age to a place so reliant on out of town visitors.

Robert asks…

What was the name of 1st Bank established in India and in which year?????????????????

Riverpalm answers:

State bank of india… I know they celebrated their 200 th anniversary recentlyr..so i guess it is 200 years back or 1808 it was established.

Daniel asks…

I owe 1st Convience Bank close to $1000 and want to make payments and improve my credit score, how should I do?

how should I do this? I heard that you need to request everything in writing and make sure they agree to rreport it to the barrue of credit, etc.

Riverpalm answers:

What kind of debt is this that you owe? If this is a regular loan that you took out, making the installment payments on time will build your credit. Likewise, if this is a credit card, making at least the minimum payment on time each month will build good payment history and improve your score.

However, if this is defaulted debt or overdrawn on your bank account, any kind of payment plan will not help your score. Either would be reported as a negative to the credit bureaus and paying won’t help. The damage is done and will remain for the balance of the 7 year reporting period.

If this is defaulted debt, make sure you get a written payment agreement before you pay. It is likely the debt is no longer with the original creditor and has been sold to a collection agency.

Does facebook preview really show what your page look like for others?

Does facebook preview (the one that you can select under privacy setting) really show what your page look like for others?

And what are the recent privacy changes on facebook?

Thank you.

Riverpalm answers:

Yes it does. One way to verify is have a friend log onto their page and look at yours. I don’t know of any recent privacy changes. You can personalize your privacy under account at the top right corner of your home page.

Lizzie asks…

How does Facebook decide which 5 friends to show when i hover over my name?

When i hover over my name on Facebook a popup box appears showing 5 friends and the list barely changes whenever i bring it back up. How does Facebook decide which friends turn up? Is it the people who view my profile the most?

Riverpalm answers:

I think its just at random

How did Facebook use principles related to the definition of Organizational Development to grow and prosper as a company? How does the concept of Organizational development relate to Facebook?

Riverpalm answers:

Sounds like homework to me

Sandra asks…

How can facebook handle so many users in real time with php?

There are millions of users on Facebook at a time. Despite this, Facebook is able to update people’s news feeds with others activity in real time. With what structure of php can this be accomplished.

Riverpalm answers:

Actually both of the answers above suck.
Look into ‘HipHop’
It’s a code translator that the Facebook team made that converts the PHP code to C++, allowing them to compile it. Since compiled code runs much faster than interpreted code (except ASP/ASP.NET, which just sucks in general) it allows them to accomplish much faster loading times.
As well, it’s not only the code that allows them to do such. You have to consider that they’re running constant queries to their databases, thus their queries have to be top-notch. Writing a query well will significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to pull from the database. This includes indexes, proper queries, using prepared statements when need be, and database optimization.

Having a whole databank of servers does NOT make your website run faster. In fact, it adds overhead to the whole process, thus potentially increasing loading times. So there’s both answers proven wrong.
What HipHop did for them was significantly reduced the server load and time required to process the code, thus allowing them to process more on one server, and compile their code. The only con of that was losing some commands such as eval().
I personally compile my PHP source and use it as such. You also have to ensure that when you write it, it’s properly structured and that the best practices are used. This will also significantly reduce processing time and load.
